AnkLight
AnkLight
AnkLight is a wearable safety light that uses biomotion to increase cyclist visibility. By mounting the light on the ankle, the pedaling motion creates a dynamic visual cue that encourages drivers to maintain a safe passing distance.
The Challenge
Create a rugged, functional safety light that communicates a cyclist's presence better than static lights while ensuring the electronics remain weather-sealed and easy to wear.
The Process
Iterative Design: Developed twelve distinct 3D-printed iterations to refine the ergonomics and internal component fit.
Hardware Integration: Salvaged and re-engineered the PCB and LED array from an existing light into a custom-designed housing.
Refined Finish: Used acetone vapor smoothing on the 3D-printed parts to achieve a professional, weather-resistant gloss finish.
Functional Design: Integrated a strap pass-through for secure mounting and included weather-sealed buttons and a protected charging port.
